It was only a a few months old puppy when the flames reached him and threatened his existence. For him, however, the last word was not yet called. An bear was saved in pitiful conditions during the fires that devastated Spain in the summer of 2024, but this little one was rescued in time and today it is well.
Barniedo, this is the name given to the wild as reported and recovered in the district of Barniedo de la Reina, has grown and continues to explore her natural habitat in the province of Castilla y León. To make it known is the Fundación Natural Heritage of the regional council, which gave updates through social channels.
A few days ago the body spread video that portrayed Barniedo, now an almost adult specimen. The shared material shows the plantigrad while it is walked through the paths that wind through the Iberian vegetation.

It is him, Barniedo, the bear escaped to the wooded fire that hit Villafrea de la Reina in July. The time and care promptly administered have healed every wound, allowing a reintegration in the nature of the animal.
It was not at all obvious given the conditions in which the puppy paid. Many life was saved to him, each with their own role. First of all the citizens of the district, who informed the authorities of the presence of a wild in serious difficulties. Then the environmental guards, the foresters activated by the regional council intervened.
Finally, in a race against every second and possible scenario, it was the veterinarians of the Valladolid crasi who took care of Barniedo, his burned legs and his rehabilitation.
Today, as the regional fund for the protection and management of the natural heritage declares, Barniedo is “in perfect condition” and runs in a mountain area as a free animal. The bear continues to be followed by the patrols of experts, the so -called Patullas osowhich monitor the Ursine populations present in the area.
Long -distance observations and the use of phototrappole allow to supervise and protect the wild. Thanks to their work we can also observe, from afar, the complete recovery of Barniedo, rejoicing for him. Let’s enjoy these images because, as the news teaches us, the return in nature of wild animals recovered in critical situations is not obvious.
