Among the wonders of the Black Forest we find the Ravennaschlucht Christmas market. Located at the foot of the Höllentalbahn viaductone of the most spectacular railway sections in Germany, the Ravennaschlucht market, which takes place over the four weekends of Advent, combines tradition, craftsmanship and sustainability in a magical and unrepeatable atmosphere.
A fairytale setting
The Höllentalbahn viaduct, 40 meters high, transforms into a rainbow of lights that overlooks the small wooden houses illuminated and festively decorated. The wooded hills of the Black Forest surround the market, creating an evocative and almost unreal picture, where the train crossing the viaduct, wrapped in a luminous fog, seems to have come out of a fantasy novel.
Walking through the stalls, you will discover a vast selection of handmade artisan products, finely crafted Christmas decorations and original gift ideas. The atmosphere is completed by the scent of cinnamon, mulled wine and regional specialties that wafts through the air, for a multi-sensory experience that will involve visitors.
Every year, 40 local exhibitors present many products that tell the story and identity of the Black Forest: from typical desserts such as the Black Forest cake to regional cured meats and cheeses, each culinary proposal reflects the soul of the territory.
Among the main attractions there is a large nativity scene, which tells the story of the Nativity with animated scenes with attention to the smallest details. Children find a special space in the Zollhäusle, where they can participate in creative workshops and activities designed for them.
An event to plan
Given its enormous popularity, the Christmas Market in the Gorge of Ravenna requires careful planning. Tickets for the 2024 edition, available only in advance, are already sold out, including those for the shuttles organized by Freiburg, Titisee, Hinterzarten and Himmelreich. The mandatory pre-sale serves to guarantee access control, with the aim of avoiding overcrowding and preserving the intimacy of the event.
Those wishing to visit the market can choose to arrive on foot, booking a specific ticket for pedestrian access, a perfect option for those staying nearby and wanting to completely immerse themselves in the winter experience of the Black Forest.
The Christmas market is also sustainable

The Gola di Ravenna Christmas Market is a clear example of how a sustainable event can be organised. For years, the market has been committed to respecting the criteria of the “Green Event BW”, a recognition awarded by the Ministry of the Environment of Baden-Württemberg for ecological events.
The energy used comes exclusively from renewable sources, and all the lighting is made with low-consumption LED lights. Furthermore, the materials used for the decorations and construction of the stalls are chosen for their low environmental impact, while the gastronomic offer favors local and organic ingredients.
Practical information
The 2024 edition of the market will take place from November 22nd to December 15th, with times varying between Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Entrance has a differentiated cost: 5.50 euros for those arriving before 4pm, 7.50 euros for later arrivals, while children up to 15 years old can enter for free.
For those arriving by car, the parking available near Breitnau or Hinterzarten costs 7 euros, but the most convenient solution remains the use of shuttles.
