A pioneering project born a Monk Thanks to two young designers, PEDRAM ZOLGADRI And Carolin FiechterI decided to fight plastic pollution with an alternative that was so much ecological How much functional.
The inspiration comes from afar, in particular fromIndiawhere for centuries the leaves are sewn together to create US food containers. Leaf Republic brought this concept to the West, modernizing it with one mechanized production and making it accessible to a global audience. The result? Elegant dishes, water resistantpleasing to the touch e compostable in just 28 dayswithout leaving traces harmful to the environment.
The dishes designed by Leaf Republic were made up of Two external layers of sewn leaveswith an intermediate layer of vegetable paper. All the materials came from renewable sourceslike the palm trees of South America and the fibers of bamboo. The leaves were already purchased and worked in European establishments according to high hygienic standards. The result was a beautiful product to see, useful and sustainable.
A challenge too big?
Despite the initial enthusiasm and media interest, Leaf Republic closed in 2018. The main reason? The Difficulty in scalability of production and the problems related to conservation and contamination leaves during international transport. A premature end for a project that, however, has left a profound mark in the sector of Sustainable packaging.
