How much are we connected with nature? Starting with this question, the Dutch photographer Annemieke Tonna has created a fascinating photographic project entitled Human = Naturewhich explores the surprising visual and structural similarities between humans and the natural world.
Specialized in conceptual photography, Annemieke has reflected on the way in which humans relate to plants and animals, often perceiving themselves as separate beings, more linked to culture than to the environment.

In reality, we ourselves are an integral part of it and we have a vital need in numerous areas: from food to materials, without forgetting the aesthetic sector and innovative sectors such as biomimetics, where nature becomes a model for the creation of artificial systems.

Reflecting on our relationship with nature is therefore fundamental to improve the way we live it and relate to it. And it is precisely from this awareness that the project is born Human = Nature.

Annemieke’s photographs are digital collages in which the human body merges with natural elements. Thus a language appears half of meat and half of the cortex, a back turns into a tree trunk, creating a visual and symbolic connection that demonstrates an unexpected similarity.

Sometimes animal figures also emerge which, as in this case, become an integral part of the human face.
