This Region was elected the most sustainable tourist destination in Italy in 2024

Trentino confirms itself as the undisputed leader in tourism sustainability, winning the prestigious “Destination Sustainability Index” award for the second time in a row during the ninth edition of the 2024 Tourism Oscars, organized by The Data Appeal Company – Almawave Group. The ceremony, held in Rimini within the TTG Travel Experience, rewarded the Italian destinations that stood out for the quality of the tourist offer and the general perception of visitors, with particular attention to the hospitality and services offered.

The most sustainable tourist destination in Italy is Trentino

The recognition of Trentino as the most sustainable destination comes at the end of a detailed analysis based on over 32 million digital traces, collected and analyzed by the artificial intelligence of The Data Appeal Company. The information comes from reviews, comments and content published online, and has made it possible to monitor 797 thousand points of tourist, historical and cultural interest throughout Italy, examining the period from 1 September 2023 to 31 August 2024.
Trentino has demonstrated its ability to skilfully combine environmental protection with tourist hospitality, obtaining appreciation not only for the beauty of its mountain landscapes, but also for its sustainable management policies, a result that reflects a future-oriented vision , which aims to preserve the natural heritage of the region, while ensuring responsible and quality tourism.

A data-driven award

The peculiarity of this award lies in the scientific approach that supports it: The Data Appeal Company has used sophisticated algorithms to analyze the reputation of destinations through proprietary indices, returning a complete picture of tourist perception, and thanks to these analyses, Trentino has managed to emerge as a virtuous example, winning in a category in which sustainability is not reduced to a mere slogan, but rather to a tangible and measurable commitment.
The Destination Sustainability Index award is a recognition that takes into account various aspects related to environmental sustainability, the energy efficiency of accommodation facilities, the responsible management of natural resources and the ability to reduce the tourism impact on the territory. The region has invested heavily on these fronts, adopting innovative technologies and forward-thinking policies that aim to protect its ecosystem and improve the quality of life of residents and visitors.

A sustainable future for tourism

Sustainability is now a central theme in the tourism sector, and Trentino represents a model to follow for other destinations wishing to undertake a similar path. The region has been able to successfully implement a series of green projects, such as the reduction of CO2 emissions, the promotion of low environmental impact transport and the enhancement of tourist itineraries that favor gentle mobility, such as trekking and cycle tourism.
Trentino’s victory at the Destination Sustainability Index award is part of a broader context of awards awarded during the ceremony, including the “Destination with the best reputation” award to Veneto and the “Inclusivity Index” award to Lombardy.

Trentino as a model of excellence

The example of Trentino demonstrates that it is possible to reconcile the influx of tourists with the protection of the environment, where high quality tourist experiences can be provided without compromising the integrity of the territory. The reconfirmation of the success (as mentioned, Trentino repeated last year’s award) is the result of a strategic vision that involves local institutions, sector operators and local communities, united in the common objective of building tourism that is truly sustainable.
With this victory, Trentino establishes itself as a destination of excellence at a national level, and places itself as an international point of reference for sustainable tourism practices. A concrete example of how tourism, if managed responsibly, can become a driver of economic development without compromising the delicate environmental balance of the territory.
