Rome woke up under an intense disturbance which, according to forecasts, will continue to affect Lazio for at least 12-18 hours. The persistent rains especially hit the southern and western quadrants of the capital, transforming several streets into actual waterways and putting urban traffic to the test from the early hours of the morning.
The Local Police of Rome Capital is tirelessly busy with interventions related to road safety: over one hundred reports have already been handled including flooding, unsafe trees and temporary closures. A complex day, marked by widespread inconveniences and haywire traffic.
Flooded roads and traffic compromised
Among the most critical situations stands Ponte Bianco, between Gianicolense and San Camillo, where the roadway was completely invaded by water, making access to the hospital area difficult. Similar problems are recorded in the southern quadrant, in particular between Eur and Tintoretto, with submerged pavements and prolonged slowdowns.
The large arteries are among the most affected. Via Pontina is partially flooded towards Rome, with kilometre-long queues reported since dawn. Similar inconveniences also occur on Via Ostiense, Cassia, Nomentana, Cristoforo Colombo, Aurelia and on the A24, while the Eastern Ring Road and the Grande Raccordo Anulare proceed in fits and starts.
The critical issues also had repercussions on public transport. Atac has ordered the diversion of several bus lines due to the impracticability of underpasses and secondary roads. The officers are also busy in the Monteverde, Prenestino, Nomentano and Cassia neighborhoods to make the roadways safe.
Two collapsed pine trees
Meanwhile, strong winds caused branches and trees to fall. In Eur, a tree collapsed destroying a parked car, while in Balduina a large pine tree hit a passing car and the rear part of a bus. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

In the province the situation is more under control, but in Frosinone several mayors have ordered the closure of schools. The authorities invite citizens to limit travel, avoid areas subject to flooding and report any dangerous situations.
