Let’s also welcome 2026 with the inevitable and splendid Quadrantidsthe first shooting stars of the year. We prepare many wishes for this night between 2 and 3 Januarywe don’t miss it!
As the UAI explains, the meteor activity at the beginning of the year is dominated by a very intense swarmthe Quadrantidswhose maximum is expected in the early hours of January 3, famous for having a peak activity that may last only a few hours. Under favorable conditions, their frequency can reach values โโof the order of 100โ130 meteors per hour, placing them among the most intense showers of the year.
Unfortunately, 2026 will not be the best year for this swarm, as there will be a full moon on January 3rd, the beautiful Wolf Moon, which could significantly reduce the number of observable meteors, in particular those of medium-low brightness (in the map the sky of January 3, 2026 at approximately 2.00 am).
But let’s not lose hope, the swarm of Quadrantids it is really very intense, so it will not be difficult, even with the Full Moon, to admire at least some meteor.
Let’s prepare wishes!
