On Thursday 11 and Friday 12 June 2026, Italian rail transport will face a new day of disruption. The main stop will last 23 hours: it will start at 3:00 on June 11th and end at 2:00 on the 12th. The staff of the FS Group, Trenitalia, Trenitalia Tper and Trenord will stop, with repercussions also extended to workers of private railway companies and procurement, including the services that operate for Italo. Possible cancellations and delays on the entire network, both regional and high-speed and long-distance.
The unrest on the calendar: not a single strike
The day of June 11th intertwines several mobilizations proclaimed by different acronyms, all included in the official calendar of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport. The longest stop is the 23-hour stop proclaimed by the grassroots unions Cub Trasporti and Sgb for the staff of railway companies and rail freight transport. Added to this is an 8-hour agitation, from 9:01 to 17:00, jointly called by Filt-Cgil, Fit-Cisl, Uiltrasporti, Ugl Ferrovieri, Fast Confsal and Orsa Trasporti for the staff of railway companies and procurement. The FS Group’s engine and on-board staff also stop in the same period from 9am to 5pm, following a proclamation from the Pdm/Pdb National Assembly. The basis of the protest is the clash with the MIT over future tenders for the awarding of Intercity services. The unions contest the choice to divide the tenders into three distinct and non-equivalent lots, and ask for a single national lot to protect the uniformity of the service.
Guarantee times and bands
For regional transport by Trenitalia, Trenord and Trenitalia Tper, the guarantee periods provided for on weekdays remain active: from 6:00 to 9:00 and from 18:00 to 21:00. The trains included in the lists of minimum guaranteed services run in these windows. Regional trains already underway complete their journey if they are expected to arrive at their destination, according to official time, within one hour of the end of the protected period. For Frecce, Intercity and Italo trains no fixed time slots apply, only the lists of guaranteed trains published by each company count. Long-distance trains traveling at the start of the strike only reach their final destination if it can be reached within an hour of the start of the strike; beyond this deadline, they can stop at a previous station.

Refunds: times and methods
Anyone who cancels the trip can request a refund starting from the announcement of the strike. For Intercity and Frecce trains the request is allowed until the departure time of the booked train; for regional trains by midnight the day before the strike. Alternatively, it is possible to reschedule the trip under similar conditions, based on seat availability.
