Transport in haywire, three-day national strike stops Italy: dates, expected cancellations and guarantee bands

Italy is preparing for three days of transport disruption due to numerous strikes: from 26 to 28 February 2026 the air, rail and local sectors will in fact be shaken by trade union mobilisations which risk complicating the lives of commuters, tourists and last minute travellers. After the local unrest at the beginning of the month, the protest promises to be widespread and unprecedented in the last days of February.

Thursday 26 February: the Italian sky stops

It starts on Thursday 26 February with an air transport strike lasting 24 hours, proclaimed by Cub Trasporti and supported by Filt-Cgil, Fit-Cisl, Uilt-Uil, Ugl TA, Anpac and Anp. It involves ITA Airways staff, easyJet pilots and flight attendants, and ground staff from various companies.

In addition to the complete stop, Usb Lavoro Privato has announced four-hour strikes, from 1pm to 5pm, for flight and ground staff. The main Italian company, ITA Airways, has already confirmed the cancellation of 55% of scheduled flights, with possible repercussions also on 25 and 27 February.

Friday 27th and Saturday 28th: ​​the strike moves to the tracks

After the chaos in the skies, the mobilization hits trains and railways. The national strike begins on Friday 27th at 9pm and ends on Saturday 28th at 8.59pm, affecting staff of Trenitalia, Italo, Trenord and local railway operators.

To reduce inconvenience to commuters, guarantee periods are provided: from 6:00 to 9:00 and from 18:00 to 21:00 on weekdays, during which essential trains run. For high speed and long distance trains, it is advisable to check on the companies’ websites which trains will actually be in service.

Local strikes and public transport

Alongside the national protest, some cities will experience local unrest. In Bari, the staff of Ferrovie Sud Est and Servizi Automobilistici will cross their arms on February 27th from 7.30pm to 11.30pm. In Turin, Arriva Italia will carry out a four-hour strike on the same day, from 4pm to 8pm, with possible repercussions on urban transport. It is therefore essential for those who have to travel to plan their trip in advance and find out about cancellations to avoid inconvenience.
