A historic turning point in the fight against the exploitation of animals in the circuses: For the first time in Italythe authorities have seized Two tigers and two lions illegally detained within a circus expected in the province of Brindisi.
The blitz was conducted by the carabinieri of the Cites nucleus of Bari, who ascertained the violation of Legislative Decree 135/2022: a rule that expressly prohibits the acquisition of new exotic animals in the circuses, in addition to their reproduction and marketing, because they are considered a danger to public health and for biodiversity.

Although the law has been in force for two years, the circuses continue to ignore it thanks to extensions on extensions granted by the Ministry of Culture. In these days, in fact, the Culture Commission of the Chamber has approved a further extension which, if confirmed by the vote in the classroom, will postpone to another 18 months The definitive disposal of animals in circuses.
But this operation in Puglia represents a change of pace. For the first time, the law is enforced on the field. A strong signal, especially in the light of the over 2,000 creatures still forced to live under the tents in often miserable and unnatural conditions.
This kidnapping is not just a news: it is a powerful precedentwhich could open the way to a real change in the protection of exotic animals in Italy. And for once, it’s not just a nice promise on paper.
