Trentino with an initiative has transformed the fear of depopulation into a real boom of questions. The announcement launched by the Autonomous Province of Trento to revitalize 33 mountain municipalities has already collected about 300 requests, pushing the administration to prolong the terms and increase the available resources. There are contributions up to 100 thousand euros for those who choose to move, buy or renovate a house in the valley.
Increased funds and revised calendar
The success of the initiative led the Province to allocate an additional 9 million euros, which add up to the 10 million already expected initially. Not only that: the new temporal window to submit an application has been postponed and will be open from November 14 to 31 December 2025, giving the possibility to those who had received a notice of rejection to correct their application. This postponement will allow you to more calmly manage the high number of requests and guarantee more precise rankings.
A project involving local residents
Perhaps the most surprising data is that most of the questions come from local people. In municipalities such as Rabbi, for example, over 30 requests have already arrived. It is a positive sign: the initiative not only attracts new inhabitants, but also convinces those who already live in the area to invest in their future there. The stated goal is to keep the valleys alive and avoid the abandonment of small historic centers.
Concrete incentives for those who choose to move
The announcement includes contributions of up to 40% of the expenditure for interventions in historic centers and 35% in other areas, with a maximum roof of 80 thousand euros for renovations and 20 thousand for purchases. In return, the beneficiaries must establish the residence for at least ten years or rent a calm fee to those who decide to move. A constraint that aims to consolidate in the long run the presence of families and young people.
A strategy for the future of the communities
According to the Councilor for Housing Policies Simone Marchiori, the initiative mainly wants to attract young couples and families with children, to guarantee continuity to local communities. Thanks to the optical fiber spread in the area and the possibility of working in Smart Working, living in the mountains is no longer a choice of isolation, but an opportunity to combine quality of life and sustainable future.
