A violent wave of bad weather hit Rome, the province and the Castelli Romani yesterday, putting the rescue effort to the test. Intense rain, gusts of wind and thunderstorms have transformed roads and urban areas into veritable rivers, causing flooding, fallen trees and widespread traffic disruption. Hundreds of firefighters, local police and civil protection intervened, especially in the most exposed areas.
Streams and rivers under observation
The most delicate situation was recorded in the northern area of ββRome, where the Settebagni ditch flooded, and along the Tiber, which was constantly monitored. As a precaution, access to the docks was closed and river activities were suspended to reduce the risk of flooding.
Bad weather: the docks of the Tiber in the urban section closed from yesterday evening, January 4, 2026, until the needs cease.

Fear at the Imperial Forums due to a collapsed pine tree
A pine tree approximately 20 meters high collapsed in Via dei Fori Imperiali, a few steps from the Colosseum at the tourist information point, near the entrances to the metro station. Luckily there were no injuries with the local police and firefighters cordoning off the area. The tree was quickly removed, but the episode has reignited the debate on the management of urban greenery and the safety of monumental trees.

A padel structure collapses in Ciampino
Around 11.30 yesterday, in Ciampino, the Padel Sassone structure collapsed on Via Asti during some matches due to a violent whirlwind coming from the sea which hit between Via del Divino Amore and Via Mazzamagna, affecting the areas of Frattocchie and Ciampino. Nine people were involved: some suffered stab wounds from broken glass, but no one’s life is in danger. The 118 health workers and the Fire Brigade intervened promptly and made the area safe. Gusts of wind caused further damage, with trees uprooted and roofs damaged.
