If you’ve ever wondered why video freezes right at the climax, or why loading a page seems to take forever, the answer may (also) lie in your carrier. Which are the best in Italy? Altroconsumo carried out an entire year of monitoring, with almost 10 thousand users involved, drawing up a ranking of the operators offering faster internet access.
Let’s find out together who wins and who loses in the battle of Italian mobile networks.
The ranking
The data collected from January 1st to December 31st 2025, thanks to the tests of 9,376 users via the CheBanda app, draws a rather clear hierarchy. Vodafone takes first place with 81,643 points, confirming itself as the best for both browsing speed and quality of streaming and downloads.
To follow, in second position, we find Fastweb and in third Tim. The last two positions belong to WindTre and Iliad.
!function(e,n,i,s){var d=”InfogramEmbeds”;var o=e.getElementsByTagName(n)(0);if(window(d)&&window(d).initialized)window(d).process&&window(d).process();else if(!e.getElementById(i)){var r=e.createElement(n);r.async=1,r.id=i,r.src=s,o.parentNode.insertBefore(r,o)}}(document,”script”,”infogram-async”,”https://e.infogram.com/js/dist/embed-loader-min.js”);
An interesting detail concerns the duel between Fastweb and Tim: the two operators exchange leadership depending on the network used. In 4G, Fastweb has the upper hand, while in 5G, Tim prevails. Two sides of the same coin, in short, with different characteristics depending on where and how you navigate.
One of the most significant data emerging from the monitoring concerns the gap between the two technologies. The average download speed in 5G is approximately three times faster than in 4G and this applies to all operators tested.
Here are the numbers in detail:
We notice that 5G is advancing. If in the previous survey it represented 30% of total tests, it has now reached almost 38%. Fastweb leads the ranking for 5G use (48% of tests), followed by WindTre and Tim. In the queue, Vodafone and Iliad.
!function(e,n,i,s){var d=”InfogramEmbeds”;var o=e.getElementsByTagName(n)(0);if(window(d)&&window(d).initialized)window(d).process&&window(d).process();else if(!e.getElementById(i)){var r=e.createElement(n);r.async=1,r.id=i,r.src=s,o.parentNode.insertBefore(r,o)}}(document,”script”,”infogram-async”,”https://e.infogram.com/js/dist/embed-loader-min.js”);
How the investigation was conducted
The monitoring was carried out via the free CheBanda app, developed by Altroconsumowhich allows anyone to measure the quality of their mobile connection in real time.
The tests involved 9,376 users throughout 2025 and they evaluated four fundamental parameters: download speed, upload speed, video viewing quality (startup times, interruptions, errors) and internet browsing speed.
For each user, all the tests carried out in the different locations were considered, calculating the average. In each measurement, the app automatically detected the best technology available at the time (4G or 5G) depending on the location’s coverage.
