Imagine walking through the Vineyards of the Tuscan Maremma, immersed in the scents and colors of a breathtaking landscape. Now imagine being able to listen, while traveling the paths of a cellar expertly dug in the tuff, the voice of those who gave birth to that land, telling you the story of each vineyard, of every bottle and of every choice that made that wine so unique. All without having to book guided tours, in maximum freedom and through the tool you certainly have in your pocket: your smartphone.
We had the pleasure of making this immersive journey, able to combine the beauty of the vineyards with the direct narrative of the protagonists, in the Sassotondo biological cellarnear Pitigliano, the second pilot case-history of the project Louquis Open Winery which aims to revolutionize thewinery with digital innovation, through their own Geolocalized podcasts. A sort of audio guide accessible through QR code that tell the territory directly from the voice of those who live it every day, thus transforming the visit to a unique sensory experience that also combines hearing with the sight of the breathtaking landscapes and the taste of fine wines.
The narrative is not limited to the mere story: it becomes a real invitation to discover the passion and dedication of those who, like Carla Benini and Edoardo Ventimiglia, He chose to grow this project starting from love for the earth and the desire to respect it.
Their story, in fact, is of those who fill your soul and give back confidence in people: we had the pleasure of meeting Carla and Edoardo live, but to tell all the nuances and sustainable choices of their adventure that began in 1990, the Loquis podcast thought about it that we listened to while traveling the rows of vines and tuff caves.
Sassotondo: a story of passion and sustainability
The story of Saxotond He begins with a desire for roots, a desire to grow something authentic on the Tuscan land in the most hidden area of the Maremma. Carla and Edoardo, with a long preparation in agriculture and viticulture, arrive in Sovana, between Sorano and Pitigliano, in the early 90s, being in front of 72 hectares of abandoned land and a hectare of vineyard. In love with all the dichotomies of that territory so rich in shapes and colors, they rolled up their sleeves and chose the path of quality, rather than that of the quantity. When they decided to plant the vineyard, they did it with a clear vision: that of working the earth naturally, respecting its rhythms, without forcing, and with particular attention to the biodiversity.
Since 1994, Sassotondo has been a certified biological cellar, a choice that has not been dictated by fashion, but by the belief that only with a sustainable approach can quality results be obtained. Also because the first harvest dates back to 3 years later, in 1997. Organic agriculture and, for a brief parenthesis also the biodynamic one, were pordaned and naturally integrated into the company’s philosophy in order to create a perfect balance between the earth and the vine.
The link with the territory is also evident in choice of the vine symbol of the cellar: the cherry. This extremely generous grape variety is treated with the utmost care, reducing the surrender to guarantee the quality of the product. There microzonation of the vineyardstogether with an innovative and attentive vinification method to sustainability, contributes to the creation of a wine of great structure that tells the story of a territory characterized by its volcanic geology and the uninterrupted presence of the tuff.
All this and the different shades have been told to us in the smallest details precisely by the Postcast of Louquis who has not limited himself to describing the geographical and climatic characteristics that influence viticulture, but has also managed to convey the passion and seriousness of those who work every day.
The Loquis project is not for us a simple tool to increase the visibility of the company, but we believe that it will help us improve the general performance of our cellar in the reception sector ” – said Carla and Edoardo who in this project wanted to believe it immediately – will help us transmit the information that we consider important to a wider audience, both in terms of language (with the versions translated) attracted by what is usable with the mediation of a smartphone
The integration of digital technologies like this is giving a new push to the derivative sector, which is recording significant growth. According to the latest data, over 70% of tourists seek authentic experiences related to food and wine and more and more cellars are investing in theHospitality to welcome these travelers. The Loquis Open Winery project – which will be officially submitted to Vinitaly 2025 – represents an answer to this growing demand for engaging experiences, which unite tradition, innovation and sustainability.
Today Louquis is the travel companion of 2.5 million experiential tourists, travelers who do not settle for a photo on Instagram, but want to understand, listen and live the territory – commented the CEO Bruno Pellegrini – with our audio tour geolocalized tour, each cellar will be able to tell their history, the link with the territory and the secrets of their wines, offering visitors a unique digital experience, any time. Lquis Open Winery is an opportunity for the cellars to enhance their heritage and for tourists to discover wine with a new level of depth and involvement.
A new frontier for wine tourism, therefore, in which technology combines culture and where each visit becomes an opportunity to understand more deeply the history, the territory and the soul of each cellar. In an increasingly digitized world, wine tourism has found a way to evolve, remaining faithful to its most authentic essence.
