Correggio in cinema: from Monicelli to Ligabue

The drama, directed by Cosimo Alemà, takes us to the heart of Correggio, in the province of Reggio Emilia, chosen not only as the main setting but also as the actual headquarters of the production. Correggio boasts a solid cinematographic tradition, having hosted iconic films over time from Mortadella by Mario Monicelli with Sophia Loren up to Ferrari by Michael Mann.

And when he temporarily stopped being a singer to take on those of a director, he chose to pay homage to his country by setting his films here Radio arrow And Made in Italy with Piazza Mazzini as the protagonist with its succession of historic facades with bright and warm colors typical of the Emilian tradition.

From Carpi to Novellara: the journey through the treasures of Emilia-Romagna

Walking through the arcades of the center of Correggio, you immediately feel the narrative tension that animates the series: the mysterious disappearance of two young lovers, Camilla and Manraj, which causes the fragile balance of coexistence and integration between the Italian community and the large Sikh community rooted in the area for decades to collapse, engaged above all in agricultural work and in the dairy supply chain.

Our travel itinerary continued touching other fundamental stages of Emilian processing. We moved to Carpi, admiring the magnificent Piazza Martiri and the imposing Castello dei Pio, corners rich in history that offer glimpses of extraordinary beauty.

We then stopped in Novellara, a place with profound symbolic value as it hosts one of the largest Sikh temples in Europe, an authentic point of reference for the faithful from all over Northern Italy. The route wound through country roads and the towns of Rio Saliceto and Parma, places that conveyed that authentic and melancholy atmosphere that is the backdrop to the investigations of the Carabinieri negotiator Laura Macchi and her cousin Bisan, played by Kel Giordano.

Towards Friuli Venezia Giulia: Udine and the surprise of Trieste

But the locations of Strangers they are not limited to Emilia. In fact, the troupe went as far as Friuli Venezia Giulia. In Udine, the production transformed the former provincial psychiatric hospital in via Pozzuolo into a sort of small Cinecittà, reconstructing the necessary sets inside without constant travel, as well as filming in numerous streets in the center such as via Viola, via Gorgo and via Villalta.

In Trieste, however, the magic of television made it possible to transform the Palazzo della Regione overlooking Piazza Unità d’Italia into a bank, confirming how this series knows how to merge the reality of the territories with the mystery of the story.
