There are only a few days left until Christmas: the shop windows are already festively decorated, the mad rush for gifts has started and around – at the station, at the supermarket, on TV – you can already listen to the most famous and loved Christmas songs, which with their very familiar tunes contribute to making the Christmas atmosphere more real.
It cannot be missed among the most classic songs of all time Last Christmas by Wham! (the English singing duo George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley): a song published in 1984 and which still dominates the charts and playlists dedicated to these parties.
For a few years, however, a bizarre “challenge” has spread on social media: Whamagheddon. What does it consist of? From 1st to 24th December you will have to do everything to avoid listening to Wham!’s Christmas hit! – those who fail to do so (made even more difficult by the fact that this song is played everywhere in the weeks leading up to Christmas) will have to share their defeat on social media using the hashtag #whamagheddon.
The rules
The challenge, which almost seems like a game, actually also has very specific rules:
- the goal is to go as long as possible without listening to the Wham!
- the challenge begins on December 1st and ends at midnight on the twenty-fourth
- the challenge concerns only the original version – listening to covers and remixes of the song is permitted
- you are out of the game as soon as you hear a few notes of the song
Strategies to survive the challenge
For those who do not want to participate in the challenge or those (like us) who have already lost and want to listen to this beautiful Christmas song again, below is the official video clip from 1984:
