Cheese is a food found in almost every refrigerator, used for cooking or eaten alone. Despite its widespread diffusion, the preservation method is often misunderstood, and many people leave it in cling film in the supermarket, or wrap it in classic cling film, practices which can encourage the formation of mold and accelerate its deterioration. Let’s see what the experts say about it.

What do you need to keep cheese longer
To apply this method you need a few elements: an airtight container, a sheet of kitchen paper and a fundamental ingredient present in most kitchens, white vinegar. It is an economical product, easily available and already known for its antibacterial properties.
The role of white vinegar against mold
The video explains that vinegar represents the true ally in preserving cheese. It reportedly does not alter the flavor and helps prevent mold growth. The procedure consists of wrapping the cheese in absorbent paper slightly moistened with white vinegar and then placing it in an airtight container. In this way, the cheese can remain intact for weeks, unlike what happens when it is stored in cling film.
Where to store cheese in the refrigerator
The location inside the refrigerator also affects the shelf life of the cheese. If possible, it is advisable to use drawers dedicated to fruit and vegetables, designed to maintain a more stable humidity level and a constant temperature. Conversely, the back of the refrigerator should be avoided, as it is the coldest area and can cause partial freezing of the product.
Some refrigerator models have a specific compartment for cheese: when present, it represents the ideal solution for storing it correctly.
The freezer as a last option
If it is not possible to consume the cheese by the expiration date, freezing is a viable option, albeit with some caveats. Intense cold can alter both the texture and flavor, and make the product less suitable for consumption.
To freeze cheese correctly, you need to wrap it in baking paper and place it in an airtight container, and then place it in the freezer. Under these conditions, it is advisable to consume it within six months.
