What was a tuna doing on the ground outside a popular sushi restaurant? The video that outraged the web

In Bologna, a video published on social media raised a media storm that engulfed the Yoshi Japanese restaurant, known for its sushi and which until then had received positive reviews.

What happened? The images, secretly taken by a witness and published by the Instagram page “Welcome to Bolognina”, show the staff While cleans a tuna on the ground, directly on the road. The caption “Street food” makes everything even more surreal.

The video, inevitably, has made the rounds on the web in recent days, sparking the indignation of thousands of users and causing a drastic drop in bookings for the venue, whose reputation now seems seriously damaged by this episode.

But what were the employees really doing?

The reply of the restaurant owner

According to Sergio Xia, the restaurant manager, the tuna in question had arrived already deteriorated and with an unpleasant odor.

We couldn’t let it enter the room so as not to contaminate the other foods, so we cleaned it outside, quickly, before disposing of it correctly – he explained.

Then adding that:

Outside the restaurant we cleaned and rinsed the tuna and removed the entrails, which also make a lot of smell, and then completed the procedure inside and cut it up for disposal in the organic waste. We did the first part outside for fear of contaminating the other foods stored and present inside the room. I would like to underline that it has never happened before and that we are very attentive to the quality of the food, which is our strength.

In short, an operation that seems to have been misunderstood and, according to the manager, shown out of context in a video which, among other things, dates back to September.

Despite the explanations, however, the damage has been done. The video fueled rumors of incorrect food management and many customers decided not to go there anymore, causing bookings to drop by 40% in just a few days.

There is no doubt, however, that the scene is strong and seeing a tuna lying on the ground in front of a restaurant serving sushi is certainly not the best image to associate with an activity that presents itself as a place of high gastronomic quality.
