The snacks occupy the shelves of supermarkets with colored packs and promises of extreme practicality, pity that reality is far from roses and flowers. In this article we will discover the true content of these products, which every day end up in the backpacks of millions of Italian children, and we will do it with the help of nutritionist Angy Bro. In fact, the doctor analyzed the four best -selling snacks in our country, and did so by climbing the nutritional tables to reveal the true nature of these snacks.
The ingredients under the lens
The first surprise comes from the refined flours, the basis of every snack. Ingredients that, deprived of their nutrients during industrial processing, provide empty calories that rapidly raise blood sugar without bringing real benefits to the body. As for milk and its derivatives, present in almost all formulations, they can cause intolerances and digestive problems in an increasingly sensitive population to dairy products.
The lean cocoa, which might seem like a healthy ingredient, hides a different reality. Deprived of its natural fat component, it loses most of the beneficial antioxidants. In its place we find the economic vegetable oils, full of omega-6, fats which, when and if consumed in excess compared to the Omega-3, can create an imbalance that promotes chronic inflammation in the body.
The sugar question
The real problem lies in the quantity and variety of sweeteners present, and we are not talking about white sugar only: the snacks contain a real cocktail of glucose and fructose syrup, substances that our body struggles to process when taken in these concentrated forms. The liver, bombed by these simple sugars, transforms them into fat, opening the way to metabolic problems ranging from fatty liver to type 2 diabetes.
The additives complete the picture: dyes to make the product more attractive, preservatives to lengthen life on the shelf, artificial aromas to mask the flavor of the low quality ingredients. Pirophosphates, used as yeasting agents, interfere with the absorption of essential minerals such as calcium and iron.
The long -term consequences
The occasional consumption of a snack certainly does not represent a danger, it must be said. The problem arises when these products become part of the daily routine. In this case, the metabolic damage accumulates silently, with serious consequences: cells lose sensitivity to insulin, the digestive system affects, the absorption of nutrients is compromised.
Particularly worrying is the effect on bone health of the little ones. In a crucial phase for skeletal development, pyrophosphates reduce the assimilation of calcium. Furthermore, sugar addiction is established early, conditioning future food choices.
The solution is in our hands
Dr. Angy Bro closes her video with a clear message: we have to feed the body, don’t just satiate it. The difference lies in the choice of real foods, which bring vitamins, minerals and essential nutrients. Some examples? An apple with dried fruit, a natural yogurt with honey, a full sandwich with jam without added sugars, all very simple alternatives that require a few minutes of preparation but make the difference in the health of our children.
