Half a century old, from Pisa, one of the most expert surgeons in Italy for 20 years. He is Luca Morelli and for the third time in his career he is included among the best 180 thousand minds in the world, selected among the top 2% of 9 million scientists surveyed.
Professor of General Surgery at the University of Pisa and director of the Departmental Section of University General Surgery of the Aoup, Luca Morelli was in fact included in the list of the “World’s Top 2% Scientists” of the Stanford University in collaboration with Elsevier, for the third consecutive year.
A prestigious ranking, which recognizes researchers on the basis of the scientific impact of their contribution, based on the number of citations, publications and other indicators of academic excellence.
And Morelli’s is particular, because it is mentioned, among hundreds of publications and as many surgical interventions, for his contribution to oncological and minimally invasive surgeryas well as surgery robotics and laparoscopic, especially on more complex pathologies such as hepatobiliary, colorectal, upper digestive tract and uro-gynecological tumors.
What does it mean to get into the 2%?
The first parameter is given by the frequency in which the scientist’s name appears in the scientific community’s database. Publications, the impact they have had on the research and related activities of other experts are evaluated. The more someone is cited, the more he or she will have influenced research in a given sector.
Excellent work, Luca Morelli, and now we hope that next year the name of an Italian woman will also enter the ranking!
