Many wonder how much you can really trust the products sold in discount stores, especially when prices seem too good to be true. Behind brands such as “sweets”, however, known names of Italian food industry often hide. This is the case of the croissants to the Albicocca sold by Eurospin: let’s find out who really produces them.
Bauli behind the croissants Dolciandrando
Let’s take the croissants with the albicocca Filling of the Dolciando line, sold in packs of 10 pieces (500 grams total). On the label we find a generic wording: “Product and packaged for Eurospin Italia Spa”. But just carefully read the factory information to trace the royal producer.
Behind these croissants there is a giant of the Italian confectionery industry: Bauli, a well -known company for pandori, panettone and packaged baked goods. The addresses shown on the label – via degli Artigiani, Romanengo (CR) and via Cà Nove, San Martino Buon Albergo (VR) – in fact correspond to establishments attributable to Bauli.
Private Label: “Same product”, different packaging
As already happens for other Eurospin products (see the “Italian pastures” butter produced by Parmareggio), even the croissants sweets are the result of the mechanism of private labels: large retailers commissioned branded products precisely to giants in the sector. In many cases, these are versions practically identical to those sold with more well -known brands, but with a different packaging and, above all, a more aggressive price.
And the quality?
However, the fact that comes out of the same plant does not always mean that the product is identical. Companies may vary recipes, quality of the ingredients, type of preservatives, production techniques and quality standards. In other words: it is possible that the croissant sweetwriting are “cousins” of other Bauli products, but not necessarily of the twins.
Our advice
If you have special needs (ingredients, health, ethics), it is better to choose organic products or more transparent, perhaps handcrafted and local supply chains. It would also be excellent to produce them at home, here we leave the croissant recipe.
But if you are looking for a compromise between price and taste, knowing that behind certain discount products there is a name known as Bauli can reassure at least on food safety and experience in production.
As always, reading the label well is the first step to really know what you are putting in the cart.
