Young bullfighter dies framed during his first bullfight: this cruel and dangerous tradition must be abolished

A dramatic episode took place in Lisbon, in the famous Pequeno field. Manuel Maria Trindade, 22 years old, lost her life during her debut as a bull. The young, promising member of the amateur group São Manços, was facing a bull of about 700 kg in front of a crowd of almost 7,000 spectators.

The accident took place when Trindade attempted to provoke the bull and grab its horns to stop its charge. In an instant, the animal raised him in the air and thrown against the wall of the arena, causing irreparable cranial trauma. Urgently transported to São José Hospital, he was placed in artificial coma, but unfortunately he died on the morning of August 23. Below we leave you the video of what happened.

Manuel’s mother, Alzira Trindade, wrote an open letter by criticizing those who exulted for the death of the son, underlining that the family and the group of Toreri operated with honor and respect for animals. Trindade belonged to a tradition of Forcados, where the task is not to kill the animal but block it with physical force. However, even these practices, considered less bloody than the Spanish bullfight, expose participants to very serious risks, especially when the bull reacts violently and unpredictablely.

The huge dangers hidden behind the bullfights

Another tragedy was also added to this tragedy: a spectator, a 73 -year -old orthopedic surgeon, died during the event, hit by an aortic aneurysm, probably aggravated by the shock experienced by observing the scene. Two episodes that have highlighted once again how much the rods, in addition to being a cruel practice towards animals, are also extremely dangerous for humans.

For years, organizations and activists have been asking for a revision of the bullfights, a traditional and anachronistic tradition incompatible with the values of contemporary society. In the face of these dramas, one cannot fail to ask what the sense of continuing such events is: it is time to abolish them permanently.
