An exciting rescue story featured Tiki, a 20 year old blind cat of Massachusetts, who managed to escape a dramatic accident thanks to the intervention of some good Samaritans. Last December 16 Tiki was near Lake Nabnasset in Westford, where, while wandering on thin ice, he suddenly fell into freezing water.
This immediately triggered rescue operations among those present, who immediately responded mobilize to save him. Tiki, that is blind For about a year, he has loved exploring outdoors despite his disability, but that morning he found himself in a very dangerous situation.
Dawn Felicani, a passerby who was nearby, noticed the cat floating on a piece of ice that was breaking. The crackling of ice and the risk of sinking into the water alarmed the woman, who immediately called for help.
He was in hypothermia, but fortunately he survived
Within moments, two construction workers who were working on a nearby house they intervened: one of them took a rowboat, while the other used a shovel to break the ice and reach the cat. Despite the risk, they managed to pulling him out of the water just before the ice gave way definitively.
The cat was immediately taken inside, where it was dried and wrapped in blankets to keep it warm. His initial conditions were worrying: he was trembling and appeared to be in shockwith body temperature so low which could not be recorded by the thermometer. However, timely intervention prevented the worst and Tiki was taken to a vet, who confirmed his health was compromised due to the extreme cold.
According to the animal control officer, Tiki may have been chased by a predatorlike a coyote, before finding himself trapped on the ice. After being identified thanks to the microchip, it was brought home by his ownersa couple who adopted him as a puppy. Despite the traumatic experience, Tiki is fine and has resumed his routine, although he seems to be a little annoyed by the fact that he can no longer go out.
This rescue caused great emotion in the community, and everyone agrees that, without the quick and courageous action of the rescuers, Tiki would not have made it. His story is a true Christmas miracle and now the kitten will be able to roam free again, hopefully being more careful on the ice.
