“30 OP”, the rap and trap album created by the inmates of the Bollate prison (who transformed music into a tool for redemption)

Within the walls of the Second House of Reclusion in Milan Bollate, music becomes a tool for redemption and professional growth. Last September 23rd, the external area of the institute hosted the Bollate Live Show, the presentation event of the new rap and trap album entitled 30 OP. Officially published on 24 September 2026 on the Attitude Recordz label with Altafonte Italia distribution, the album represents the second recording chapter born in the Lombard prison, following the success of Half an hour of fresh air released in June 2024.

The project takes shape inside the recording studio of the Young Adults Department and was developed by the boys of the Fourth Department as part of an artistic-musical laboratory active since 2022. The signature of the work is the group composed of rappers Blackbaby, L. Brown, Lemillion, Ijazzy and Fatmac (GriingoCR). A close-knit collective of which two members, despite having already served their entire prison sentence, chose to return to prison to complete the production of the 13 songs of the album, after approximately 2 years of work on the lyrics previously approved by the Ministry of Justice.

The title is inspired by article 30 of the Penitentiary Regulations

The title of the work draws inspiration from article 30 of the Penitentiary Regulations regarding permits of necessity, but transforms the meaning of the acronym into the word opportunity. During the presentation show, big names from the Italian hip hop scene such as Ensi, Nitro, Nerone and Mic Tyson also performed, supporters of the initiative organized and financed by Me Next Agency with the Cooperativa Sociale Articolo 3, active in the institute since 2002.

Executive producer Stefano Aschieri (Stelo) highlighted the educational value of the initiative:

The songs start from the personal experiences of the artists involved and also address the concrete consequences of the choices made. Prison is not a game and the myth of the gangster does not coincide with the reality of detention.

His words are linked to those of the operator Federica Parodi, of the partner cooperative, and the declarations of the prison director Giorgio Leggieri, who reiterated how these professionalizing activities give a constructive meaning to the sentence. A team effort made possible by the contribution of professionals such as Patrick Yassin for the digital strategy, Roberto Graziano Moro for the art direction, Federico Ceravolo and Andrea Rocca for the videos, and Davide Storelli for the graphic design, offering everyone a concrete possibility of reintegration.

Music as a rehabilitation tool

The experience of 30 OP demonstrates how culture and artistic expression can transform into the most powerful tools of human and social rehabilitation. Within the walls of a penal institution, where time often risks losing its value, music and rhymes have been able to offer an authentic channel to rework the past, face the weight of one’s decisions and build a new self-awareness.

This project does not limit itself to telling the reality of detention without rhetoric or false myths, but restores dignity and voice to those who have chosen to get involved. When institutions and the territory collaborate to create concrete opportunities, punishment goes beyond the simple punitive function and becomes a real bridge towards the future, redemption and reintroduction into the community.
