Remember the song “They Killed Spider-Man”? It was the launching pad for 883, the band that marked an era. Now, the story of Max Pezzali and Mauro Repetto is a TV series, 8 episodes broadcast from 11 October on Sky and on demand on NOW.
The series dedicated to the 883
In a television landscape increasingly full of series and documentaries dedicated to the great protagonists of Italian pop culture, Sky has announced a new series dedicated to the 883s, entitled “They Killed Spider-Man”. After successful productions on characters such as Rocco Siffredi and Gianna Nannini, this new series promises to bring back to light the golden era of Max Pezzali and Mauro Repetto’s band.
Max Pezzali and Mauro Repetto met during their scientific high school years in Pavia. United by their passion for music, they begin to play together, inspired by the sounds of the 80s and 90s and using a youthful and immediate language. Their simplicity and authenticity immediately conquered the public, and the meeting with the producer Claudio Cecchetto marked a decisive turning point for their career.
The success of the first album
In the 1992883 release their first album, “They Killed Spider-Man”. The single of the same name quickly became a summer hit, consecrating the band to success. The album sells over 650,000 copies, the 883 become a national phenomenon, and songs such as “Sei un mito”, “Nord Sud Ovest Est”, “Gli anni” and “La dura legge del gol” become great successes, sung by entire generations of young people for many years to come.
The TV series takes its name from the debut album and aims to focus on the salient moments that defined the careers of Pezzali and Repetto.
The production of the series
Produced by Matteo Rovere and Sydney Sibilia, the series is directed by Francesco Ebbasta and Alice Filippi, while the actors Elia Nuzzolo and Matteo Oscar Giuggioli will play Max Pezzali and Mauro Repetto respectively, bringing their story of friendship and success to the screen.
Despite the initial success, the duo entered into crisis between 1993 and 1994, leading to Mauro Repetto’s exit from the band. Max Pezzali continues the journey with a new line-up, including the backing singers Paola and Chiara Iezzi, who will then embark on a solo career. 883 continue to produce successful albums such as “The woman, the dream & the great nightmare” and “The harsh law of goals”. However, in 2002, Max Pezzali decided to definitively continue as a solo artist, leaving the 883 brand.
The return of 883’s successes
Thirty years after the hits that marked a generation, Max Pezzali has not forgotten his beginnings. On 2 September 2023, Pezzali performed at the Circus Maximus in front of around 60,000 people, re-proposing many of 883’s historic songs. The “Max Forever (Hits Only)” tour is planned for summer 2024, which will bring the songs that made the band unforgettable.

What are the first two episodes about?
For the young Max Pezzali, failing means seeing his plans collapse: no holidays, distance from friends and a summer spent working in the family flower shop. But his passion for music is a precious refuge, everything takes a different turn when Silvia, the most beautiful girl in Pavia, suggests he go out, and Max, caught up in his enthusiasm, promises her that he will write her a song.
Meanwhile, Mauro Repetto has spent the summer working to afford DJ equipment and now he’s ready: all that’s missing is the delivery of his mixtape to a famous American DJ coming to town. When Mauro meets Max, his new classmate, he immediately understands that he has found the perfect ally, given that he also loves music. In an afternoon of adventures, a special friendship is born between the two and Max makes Mauro listen to his new song.
