Habitats and climate ideal for lavender
The habitat suitable for lavender is very varied due to its resistance even in adverse climatic conditions. It is a rustic plant and grows spontaneously in the hill, where the soils are arid and stony.
Lavender does not fear the heat and not even the cold, it becomes particularly luxuriant if planted in areas well exposed to the sun and widely ventilated. In fact, it prefers the temperatures of the hot periods, while not suffering during winters, where it manages to resist temperatures up to -15 °.
Lavender between Provence and Italy
Geographically speaking, the lavender plant is the soul of Provence, the French region overlooking the Mare Nostrum, the Mediterranean. In Provence the vast expanses of Viola create a visual and olfactory paradise, in which the scent of lavender accompanies the history of the villages and sunny landscapes that seem suspended over time.

The Lavandto of Assisi
In Umbria, and in particular at Castelnuovo – a hamlet of the municipality of Assisi, in the province of Perugia – we find the Lavandeto of Assisi, a nursery equipped with a garden open to the public free of charge, not far from the Basilica of San Francesco.

For sixteen years, since 2010, between June and July (the period of the flowering of lavender), the Lavandeto of Assisi organizes and finances the splendid lavender festival. For the occasion, really interesting workshops are set up and stands where you can buy typical lavender products. Finally, the staff is happy to conduct guided tours between the rows of the plant.
You can turn freely between lavenders and gardens, take photographs and admire the beauty of nature.
The Lavender Festival 2025
This year the lavender festival awaits visitors during 4 unmissable weekends: the last three of June and the first of July, more precisely the 14-15 21-22 28-29 June and the 5-6 July. In the 2025 edition, the sixteenth, you will find news such as Yoga and Pilates lessons, horseback riding with the San Biagio Equestrian Center, the Alpaca and the show with the birds of prey.
At the event there will be refreshment points that will cook on the moment for lunch, dinner and aperitif, with the possibility of early reservation for numerous groups. You will also find fresh drinks and artisan ice cream with the lavender taste and beyond, it will also be possible to organize picnics between the rows or in the nursery tables. The party will be accessible until 22.30.
