In China, the pacifiers for adults are depopulated against stress, anxiety and insomnia: “We return children without worries”

In recent months, in China, a trend has exploded that has left many speechless .. literally. More and more young adults are resorting to pacifiers as a remedy against stress, anxiety, insomnia and even to quit smoking.

These particular silicone accessories are in fact no longer a habit of eccentric collectors: today they are sold as aid for sleep, relaxation tools and even supports for those who want to abandon the cigarette. On the main Chinese e-commerce platforms, such as Taobao and JD.com, the market is flourishing, with prices vary from 10 Yuan (about 1.40 dollars) up to 500 Yuan (about 70 dollars). Some online stores declare to sell thousands every month.

Behind all this, according to psychologists, there is the so -called regression phenomenon: when people face extreme pressures, they tend to take refuge in childhood behaviors. The pacifier therefore becomes a symbol of security and comfort, recalling memories of an era in which the problems were much smaller or non -existent.

Attention to hidden dangers

On social media, especially on Tiktok, the videos of adults who use the pacifier in situations of burnout, during road traffic jams or in moments of work tension multiply. Many swear they feel more calm, to sleep better and to maintain concentration. Some even prefer it to the parades, considering it cheaper and more comfortable.

However, experts warn. The dentist Tang Caomin, of the University of Sichuan, underlines that the oral structure of an adult is very different from that of a child and that prolonged use can cause dental malocclusions, temporo-ranibular articulation problems, pains and even limitations in opening the mouth. Not only that: materials and design could irritate the oral mucosa, causing injuries or ulcers.

The most serious risk concerns use during sleep: a pacifier can interfere with breathing and, in the worst cases, lead to suffocation. Despite the warnings, the phenomenon shows no signs of slowing down. For many, the idea of symbolically returning to childhood represents a way to face an adult world perceived as too hostile.

And so, between a payment of the mortgage and a stressful meeting, there are those who choose to take a break with a pacifier. Perhaps it will not be the definitive solution, but for some it is a small gesture that helps to survive the jungle of modern life.
