Official! Living near the sea stretches your life: the new study that confirms it

A team of researchers from Ohio State University has discovered that living near the sea is not just a pleasure for the eyes: it can also lengthen life. According to the analysis, those who live less than 50 kilometers from the coasts in the United States has an average of one year more than life expectancy than those who live further.

The study, published on Environmental Researchhe examined 66,263 census districts from all over the country, comparing not only the coastal areas with those far from the ocean, but also the areas close to lakes and rivers. The data were corrected taking into account socio -economic, demographic, environmental and geographical factors.

Because living near the sea is associated with greater longevity

The research showed that the proximity to the coastal waters is linked to more favorable environmental and social conditions. Among the factors that can explain this “blue advantage” are:

These combined elements create an environment that can encourage healthier aging and better quality of life.

Not all mirrors of water are good: surprising data on internal waters

If living near the ocean seems to bring benefits, the same does not always apply to lakes and rivers.

The research found that:

A “blue recipe” that does not apply to everyone

The authors point out that the so -called “blue advantage” is not universal: living near the sea brings benefits only when the environmental and social advantages add up.

The key message? The coastal cities that invest in air quality, green spaces, sustainable mobility and access to the sea can create the conditions for a more long -lived and healthy population.
