The Ministry of Health has announced a new food recall concerning Radames brand dog kibble, sold in Eurospin supermarkets. The cause of the measure is the presence beyond the legal limits of aflatoxin B1, a toxic mycotoxin which can pose a risk to the health of our four-legged friends if taken over time.
Full details of the recalled product
The recall concerns in particular the 10 kg bag bearing the batch number 5286, produced by Gheda Mangimi Srl, in the Ostiglia (Mantua) plant, with a minimum shelf life of 13/04/2027.
Although no cases of illness in dogs have been reported, the Ministry urges owners to exercise maximum caution. Consumers who have purchased Radames kibble should carefully check the packaging and verify the batch. If corresponding, the product must not be administered to animals and must be returned to the relevant Eurospin supermarket.
What are aflatoxins and what risks do they pose?
Aflatoxins are substances produced by some molds present on cereals, corn and other plant raw materials. They are highly toxic and, if ingested regularly, can cause liver damage and other health problems in animals (as well as humans). Precisely for this reason, the legislation establishes very strict thresholds, which were exceeded in this specific batch of Radames kibble.
