New Pelicot case in Great Britain: former politician confesses to 14 years of abuse of his drugged and raped wife

A former British local administrator has admitted in court to committing very serious crimes against his wife over more than a decade.

Philip Young, 49, a former member of the Enfield municipal administration with responsibility for culture, confessed in Winchester court to having repeatedly sedated and abused his wife, also allowing others to commit violence against the woman. The abuse allegedly lasted from 2010 to 2024.

The man admitted his responsibility for around 50 charges, including:

Young, however, denied some charges relating to the possession of child pornography.

The complaint

The victim, Joanne (48), discovered the abuse and filed a complaint in 2024, leading to the arrest of her ex-husband. Young left political office in May 2010, declaring that he wanted to devote more time to his family – a statement that now takes on a tragically ironic meaning.

Five other men are involved in the trial accused of participating in the abuse. All have denied the accusations. The proceedings will resume next October.

A brutal story, which closely recalls the French case of Gisèle Pelicot, who for about ten years suffered sexual violence and chemical submission by her husband and numerous other men. A judicial proceeding that ended with several convictions, including a 20-year prison sentence imposed on Dominique Pelicot himself.
