On Sunday 1 February, in prime time on Rai Uno, the third season of Heartsthe Rai fiction set in the heart-surgery Turin of the Sixties. The series, directed by Riccardo Donna and produced by Rai Fiction, Rai Com and Aurora TV, restarts with new plots, changes in the cast and a story that continues to move between private emotions and medical challenges.
Previews: Delia and Alberto between love and obstacles
The new episodes open in 1974, with Delia Brunello (played by Pilar Fogliati) and Alberto Ferraris (Matteo Martari) finally married. A goal long awaited by fans, which however does not mark a point of arrival. The two doctors, working in the cardiology department of the Molinette hospital, dream of a child but soon find themselves facing personal and professional tensions. A mysterious female figure resurfaces from Alberto’s past, destined to undermine the couple’s balance.
A new head physician and new faces in the ward
On the work front, Dr. Corvara’s departure paves the way for an important change. The new head doctor is Luciano La Rosa, played by Fausto Maria Sciarrappa, a character destined to create friction, especially with Delia. Her research funding decisions will call into question the doctor’s role within the hospital. Among the new features of the season, the arrival of Giulio Scarpati also stands out, playing the role of the psychic Gregorio Fois, an enigmatic figure inspired by a character who actually existed.
The confirmed cast and absences
Alongside the historical protagonists, Carolina Sala, Marco Bonini, Neva Leoni, Bianca Panconi and Carmine Buschini return. The most obvious absence is that of Daniele Pecci, who in the first two seasons played the charismatic head physician Corvara. A farewell that marks a change of tone in the narrative, now more focused on the new generations of doctors.
Is “Hearts” inspired by a true story?
One of the elements that made it Hearts so appreciated is its link with the real history of Italian medicine. The series is freely inspired by the stories of two pioneers of cardiac surgery, Achille Mario Dogliotti and Angelo Actis Dato, figures who made Turin an international center of excellence. While maintaining a strong melodramatic component, the fiction reflects the climate of experimentation, courage and scientific competition that characterized those years.
