2026 Winter Olympics: thanks to Francesca Lollobrigida’s splendid gold (but not only), Italy is now second in the medal table

Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics: on the second day of competitions our Azzurri are already shining in the medal table, with an excellent second place. The stupendous victory certainly shines Francesca Lollobrigidawho won the gold medal in the 3000 meters speed skating (with an Olympic record), but that wasn’t the only joy.

The medals up to today February 8th

Riccardo Lorello bronze in the 5000 meters of the same sport, in the Bormio men’s downhill skiing the podium is almost entirely blue with a silver and a bronze (Giovanni Franzoni And Dominik Paris), Sofia Goggia manages to snatch the bronze in the women’s downhill (a race which also saw the disastrous fall of Lindsey Vonntaken away by helicopter), but we also have an incredible bronze in snowboarding (Lucia Dalmasso) and a silver in the biathlon (4x6km mixed relay).

Just a little while ago, then, Dominik Fischnaller (Olympic bronze Beijing 2022) won the bronze medal again in the men’s luge

The hopes

What awaits us? First of all, there are many hopes in the Olympic mixed doubles curling champions Stefania Costantini And Amos Mosanerwho, despite a couple of defeats, never gave up, and remain in the running for the semi-final.

And to return to men’s luge, the Italian pair Nagler/Malleier in the doubles also gives us hope.

Not just medals

Today, however, we don’t just want to talk about medals which are certainly the goal of all athletes at that level. Sometimes there are wonderful stories even without victories. Among these, we want to remember the first ever victory for women’s ice hockey in an Olympic competition, with a resounding 4:1 against France (the team then suffered defeats, but this is a victory that they will remember and remember forever).
