Ecobonus 2026 for motorbikes and scooters, up to 4,000 euros discount for electric or hybrid vehicles: how it works and who can request it

2026 opens with a concrete push towards green mobility. In fact, incentives are back for those who choose to purchase electric or hybrid motorbikes and scooters, with contributions that can reach up to 4,000 euros. Starting from 12pm today, March 18, dealers can access the dedicated platform (which you can find at this link) to book the bonus, which is applied directly as a discount on the purchase price. A simple mechanism, designed to make the transition towards less polluting vehicles more immediate.

How the contribution works

The ecobonus is intended for vehicles belonging to the L1e, L2e, L3e, L4e, L5e, L6e and L7e categories, i.e. mopeds and motorcycles with two, three or four wheels. The amount varies based on the presence or absence of scrapping. Without scrapping an old vehicle, the contribution covers 30% of the price, up to a maximum of 3,000 euros.

With scrapping, however, the rate rises to 40%, with a ceiling of 4,000 euros. To obtain the greatest benefit, it is necessary to deliver a Euro class 0, 1, 2 or 3 combustion vehicle, registered in the name of the buyer or a cohabiting family member for at least one year.

The role of the dealers and the timing

The process is managed entirely by the sellers. Anyone who intends to purchase a vehicle simply needs to go to the dealership, choose the vehicle and provide any documents for scrapping.

At that point, the dealer will verify the availability of the funds and book the incentive via the Ministry portal. The contribution is immediately applied as a reduction in the final price, without complex bureaucratic steps for the customer. An important constraint concerns ownership: the purchased vehicle must remain in the buyer’s name for at least 12 months.

Resources and future prospects

30 million euros have been allocated for 2026, part of a multi-year plan that has already supported the sector in previous years. Overall, the program has provided 150 million euros between 2021 and 2026. Looking ahead, there is already talk of new funds for the period 2027-2030, a sign that the direction is now clear: encouraging increasingly sustainable mobility and reducing emissions.

An accelerating market

The context is favorable. The two-wheeler market began 2026 with growing numbers, recording a 6.5% increase in registrations in January and confirming the positive trend in the following months as well. A clear signal: between incentives and greater environmental attention, the demand for more sustainable solutions is increasing. And the ecobonus fits perfectly into this scenario, making the choice even more accessible.
