Welcome Pink Moon, in a few days the first full moon of spring which announces Easter

It’s about to arrive Pink MoonApril’s full moon that isn’t really pink, but gorgeous all the same. Our satellite will be in Full Phase night between 1 and April 2: this full moon is therefore the first of spring and the one that announces the Easterwhich this year is celebrated on April 5th.

Why Luna Rosa

Unlike the red moon which occurs when there is a total eclipse and which is really red, the name Pink Moon has no links with the color of our satellite, but comes from the American tradition which did not refer to the visual aspect: the name of Full Pink Moon (Full pink moon) derives in particular from the abundance of moss phloxa small, common pink flower that typically begins spreading across the ground in early spring.

The April full moon was then also called in other ways, with names that refer to the spring that begins to bloom: the tribe Comanchefor example, he called her Spring new moonand for both tribes Tlingit And Sioux it was there Blossoming moon.

When and how to admire the Pink Moon of 2026

The moon will technically be full on April 2nd at 4.12pm Italian time, but we will be able to admire the show all night between the 1st and 2nd of the month. Our satellite – weather permitting – will shine on the southern horizon, near the constellation of Virgo (on the map sky of April 2, 2026 at approximately 1.00 am).

What does the Pink Moon have to do with Easter

This year there will be a full moon on April 2nd, therefore this will be the first full moon of spring and therefore will also determine the date of Easter: in fact the Council of Nicaea in 325 AD established that this religious anniversary would always be the Sunday following the first spring full moon.

Since the spring equinox of 2026 was March 20, the first spring full moon is this one in April, therefore Easter will be celebrated on Sunday April 5.

Don’t miss it!
