An earthquake with an estimated magnitude of 4 occurred at 08:13 in Tuscany, with its epicenter in the Lunigiana region, 3 km north-east of Fosdinovo (Massa Carrara). As communicated by INGV, the earthquake occurred at a depth of 11 km.
Most of the population living in Massa Carrara and nearby cities such as Lucca felt the earthquake, but reports also came from Liguria, in particular from La Spezia and Sestri Levante. Citizens, some of whom took to the streets out of fear, said on social media that the quake was accompanied by a loud bang. At the moment, however, no injuries or damage to structures have been reported. In any case, the authorities and the Civil Protection have started checks in the area to ascertain any critical issues.
Some schools between Carrara and Pietrasanta, including the university center and the Puccini conservatory, were closed as a precaution, while some buildings were evacuated.
