It was supposed to be an afternoon of games, laughter and candles with friends. Instead, a few hours after the start of the party, the birthday of a 6-year-old boy was taking a completely different turn. The event was organized at the Bar Area Verde in Monfalcone, with many invitations sent to classmates and friends.
There was no shortage of confirmations and everything suggested a participatory party. Then, however, something changed. Over the course of the day, a series of last minute cancellations began to arrive, drastically reducing the number of expected guests. As time passed, the party venue remained almost empty and the risk that the little boy would have to spend his birthday with very few peers became increasingly real.
The animator’s intuition that changed the fate of the day
It was Ernesto Feletti, the animator responsible for entertaining the children during the afternoon, who realized the situation. Faced with that scene he decided not to stand by and watch. Through social networks he published a message aimed at the local community, asking anyone who was available to reach the park and help make the little birthday boy’s day special. The appeal began to circulate rapidly between Facebook, WhatsApp and numerous local groups, reaching hundreds of people in a short time.
The community’s response exceeds all expectations
What happened in the following hours surprised even those who had launched the initiative. First, some people already present in the green area approached. Then families, parents, children, grandparents and citizens started arriving not only from Monfalcone but also from Gorizia, Trieste and other nearby municipalities.
Many decided to spontaneously participate in the games organized for the birthday. Some brought small gifts, others simply their presence and the desire to give a smile to a child they didn’t know. In the space of a few hours the party transformed into a collective event full of enthusiasm and participation.
The surprise of the firefighters and the smile found again
Among the most exciting moments of the day there was also the visit of the Fire Brigade, who wanted to surprise the little birthday boy, helping to make the birthday even more memorable. At the end of the afternoon the child found himself surrounded by dozens of people who had chosen to dedicate part of their time to him.
Commenting on what happened, Ernesto Feletti recounted the emotion he experienced during those hours:
It could have been a disaster, a birthday without guests; instead humanity made the difference and the birthday boy became the happiest child in the world.
Thanks from the family
In the following days, the child’s mother also wanted to publicly express her gratitude towards all those who responded to the appeal.
We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for everything you have done for our son. His smile returned, he played and had fun with all those who, despite not knowing us, ran to us. You have given us something truly special. We will never forget what you did for us.
A story that demonstrates how a simple message shared online can transform into an extraordinary chain of solidarity, capable of uniting perfect strangers around a simple gesture but with great human value to make a child happy.
