At the meeting in Lignano Sabbiadoro, Bebe Vio Grandis conquered the stage of Paralympic athletics by printing an exceptional 14.12 in the 100 meters. This time represents the brand new Italian record in the T62 category, the class reserved for sprinters with double amputations below the knee. For the twenty-nine-year-old athlete, bearer of the Fiamme Oro Padova, it is a flash confirmation in a discipline tackled for the first time only recently, demonstrating a truly unique ability to adapt.

An impressive chronometric progression
The numbers tell the geometric evolution of this new sporting adventure. In her absolute debut on the track, the Italian sprinter started with a promising 14.75. Just three days before the Friulian meeting, on the occasion of the Italian Paralympic Championships in Grosseto at the beginning of July, it had dropped to 14.64. The leap forward recorded in Lignano is not just an improvement, but a real technical evolution. Twenty-four-year-old Ambra Sabatini, world and paralympic champion of the T63 category, also shone in the same event, setting her seasonal record by running in 14.55.

The closing with the foil and the palmarès
The move to the track marks the end of a legendary era in wheelchair fencing. The athlete has in fact made his final farewell to the platforms official after having built a monumental showcase enriched by six Paralympic medals collected between 2016 and 2024. His palmarès boasts two individual golds in foil won in Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020, a team silver obtained in Japan, and three bronzes overall, two of which were team (Rio and Paris 2024) and one individual, won in the last French event in Paris.
The sights are set on Los Angeles 2028
The future horizon is already mapped out and has a very specific name: United States. Supported by the warmth and experience of the national athletics team, the champion confessed to feeling lucky and determined to win this bet. The declared long-term goal is to qualify for the next Games in Los Angeles 2028. The ambition is to get on the five-circle podium again, trying to write an unprecedented page in world sport by winning medals in two completely different disciplines.
