A batch of Nostrano Formazza was withdrawn from the market due to the presence of Escherichia coli STEC. The alert was released on August 27, 2026 by the Ministry of Health.
The affected lot
The recall concerns batch 2428, relating to the productions of April 12, 14, 15 and 18. The cheese is marketed in wheels weighing around 7.5-8 kilos. The production plant is located in Frazione Valdo 36, in Formazza, in the province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola. It is produced by Formazza Agricola – Società Agricola Cooperativa, while the food sector operator responsible for marketing is Bertolino Srl, based in Villadossola.

The risks associated with Escherichia coli STEC
The cause of the recall is the presence of Escherichia coli STEC, a group of bacteria capable of producing toxins that can cause gastrointestinal disorders such as diarrhea and abdominal pain, and which in some cases can lead to more serious complications.
What to do if you own the product
If you have purchased the product you must check the batch number shown on the label: if it corresponds to 2428, the cheese should not be consumed but returned to the point of sale where it was purchased.
