A batch of coppa di testa ends up on the food recall list due to the possible presence of a pathogenic bacterium, la Listeria monocytogenes. The Ministry of Health warns consumers through the portal dedicated to food safety alerts, with a sheet published on 4 September.
The recalled product
The recall concerns the coppa di testa sold under the Il Mercato brand, in 100 gram packs, marketed by GS Spa. The production batch to be checked is L263323, with a minimum shelf life set for 17 September 2026. The sliced meat is produced by Motta Srl, in the factory in via Capuana 44 in Barlassina, in the province of Monza and Brianza, identified by the IT 679 L CE health mark.

Why was the recall triggered?
The reason indicated in the ministerial sheet is the probable risk of presence of Listeria monocytogenesin quantities less than 10 colony forming units per gram. It is a bacterium that can contaminate ready-to-eat foods, in particular cured meats and cold cuts stored for a long time in the refrigerator, and which is of particular concern to the most vulnerable categories: pregnant women, the elderly, small children and people with compromised immune defenses.
What to do if you own this product
The indications of the recall are clear: the head cup of lot L263323 must not be consumed. Anyone in possession of it will be able to return it to the point of sale where they purchased it, following the instructions on the official form of the Ministry of Health.
