Also to September there are the Perseids: they are not as intense as those of August but they remain the most beautiful of this month. Tonight, between 9 and 10 September in fact they will reach the peak the epsilon Perseids. We don’t miss out and we prepare many wishes!
As the UAI explains, the Perseid epsilons are actually active approximately from 5 to 21 September, but will reach their maximum precisely in these hours, with a frequency of around 8 meteors/h. Also in this case it is about very fast meteorswith a geocentric speed of approximately 64 km/s.
And this year it will be everything more beautifulbecause in the almost total absence of the Moon, which will be in the New phase on the 11th of the month (on the map the sky of September 9, 2026 at approximately 11.00 pm).

2026 will offer excellent observing conditions – the UAI experts write – The maximum will fall just two days before the New Moon on September 11th and lunar disturbance will therefore be practically absent. The September epsilon-Perseids also deserve particular attention from a scientific point of view, since in the past they have shown anomalous increases in activity, in particular in 2008 and 2013. For 2026, some models also indicate a possible encounter with meteoric material in the hours of September 10, making monitoring the swarm particularly interesting on the nights around the maximum
So all that remains is prepare many wishes and look at the sky as soon as it gets dark.
