Bad weather continues to affect the southernmost regions of Italy. For Tuesday 22 September the Civil Protection has issued a yellow weather alert for thunderstorms, hydraulic risk and hydrogeological risk in some areas of Calabria and Sicily.
After the latest phases of instability, the meteorological picture will remain particularly variable in the far South, while the rest of the country will mainly be affected by more stable conditions, with generally clear or slightly cloudy skies.
The areas affected by the alert
According to the forecast, scattered rains and possible thunderstorms are expected tomorrow, even of strong intensity, especially in inland areas, along the lower Ionian side and between eastern Sicily and Calabria.
The Civil Protection has assessed an ordinary criticality (yellow alert) for:
In Calabria the alert concerns various regional sectors, including the central-southern Ionian side, the central-southern Tyrrhenian side, the southern Tyrrhenian side and the southern Ionian side.
In Sicily, various areas are involved, including the north-eastern Ionian and Tyrrhenian sector with the Aeolian islands, the central-northern Tyrrhenian, the Simeto river basin, the south-eastern Ionian and the areas exposed to the Strait of Sicily.
The weather forecast for Tuesday 22 September
The weather will be more stable in the Centre-North, although there will be no shortage of local afternoon phenomena on the western Alpine mountains, between Liguria and Emilia and in some internal areas of the Centre, such as Marche, Abruzzo and lower Lazio.
Different situation in the South, where greater instability is expected: the sky will often be cloudy and scattered showers and thunderstorms may occur, with locally intense phenomena especially in inland areas, eastern Sicily and southern Calabria.
The yellow alert indicates the possibility of locally dangerous phenomena: the Civil Protection therefore invites you to pay attention to the weather conditions and any updates issued by the local authorities.
