They look like real fruits, but they are actually sweet. This is the idea behind realistic fruit, one of the most curious pastry trends of recent times, which has also become popular thanks to videos shared on social media. From 22 October, this type of dessert will also arrive in Lidl supermarkets, with two new proposals from the Deluxe line at the price of 4.99 euros.
What is realistic fruit?
Realistic fruit is a particular pastry creation that very faithfully reproduces the appearance of a fruit, playing with shapes, colors and textures. The aim is to create a small surprise effect: what at first glance looks like a mango, a lemon or a peach turns out, once cut, to be a dessert.
These preparations have spread especially in high-end pastry making, where they are made using mousses, creams, inserts and coatings designed to imitate the surface of fruit.
Social media has also made them particularly popular, especially the videos in which the sweets are cut in half, revealing a completely different interior from what one would expect.
Mango and pistachio versions arrive from Lidl
Lidl has also decided to propose its own interpretation of this trend, bringing two desserts from the Deluxe line to its supermarkets that reproduce the appearance of mango and pistachio.
These are ice cream single portions designed to visually recall these ingredients, with shapes and details that aim to reproduce their external appearance.
A proposal that takes up the typical visual play of realistic fruit, but transfers it from the world of artisanal haute patisserie creations to that of packaged desserts available in the supermarket.
When do they arrive and how much do they cost?
The new desserts from the Deluxe line will be available in Lidl stores starting from 22 October 2026, at the announced price of 4.99 euros.
The novelty is above all in the format and presentation: a dessert that focuses not only on taste, but also on appearance, taking up a gastronomic trend that has become recognizable thanks to social media.
Naturally, it remains to be seen whether, in addition to the resemblance to the original fruits, these ice creams will also be able to convince when tasted.
