A dream that life abruptly ended on May 26, 2024, when Mario lost his life at the age of 70 in a dramatic collision with a dumpster in Piazza dei Volontari Giuliani in Trieste, under the helpless eyes of his wife who followed him on board her scooter. On October 10, on the occasion of their tenth wedding anniversary, he entrusted a heartbreaking but at the same time full of love thought to the online diary. Words that today sound like a painful premonition:

Mario, today is our anniversary. 10 years married! I wanted to toast with you! Hug you and tell you I love you. But you’re not there. I miss you so much my beloved husband. One day we will meet again and we will never leave each other again.

The epilogue on the road and the eternal embrace

In fact, fate wanted their paths to reunite in the most unexpected way on October 15, along the G224 national road in Nanjang county, eastern China. While traveling from the city of Bazhong towards Yuatan, the Vespa driven by Sandra Paola Carozzi collided with a bicycle proceeding in the same direction, causing the vehicle to lose control and go off the road.

Desperate rescue attempts were to no avail, the Vespa rider died in hospital, ending her earthly journey just like her companion. Now, while his family works to bring his body back to Trieste, the Vespa Club Trieste e Gatti strays and the Trieste in Lambretta association mourn his passing, cherishing the desire to bring his Vespa back to Italy to place it next to Mario’s at the Piaggio museum in Tuscany, sealing their love beyond death forever.
