Let’s discover the curious TasteAtlas ranking of the 10 worst dishes in the world. We don’t want to spoil anything, so please continue reading
Let’s go back to talking about food and rankings, once again thanks to our friends at TasteAtlas. This time, however, no delicacies, no gourmet dishes, nothing at all. Forget excellences, foodporn and similar, because the dishes we will see shortly, classified as the 100 worst in the worldrequire courage, armored stomachs and a strong predisposition to risk.
Are you ready to meet the top 10 in the ranking? Let’s get started!
Blodplättar, Sweden
First place for fantastic rare pancakes, from Sweden with fury (also very popular in Norway and Finland). Prepared in the classic way, therefore using a normal pancake batter, they require only a small addition of animal blood which will give them an inviting brownish colour. Spices, onions and blueberry jam complete the dish.
Blodpalt, Finland

In second position we find another delicacy from Northern Europe, succulent brown ravioli prepared with rye or barley flour, in addition to the inevitable animal blood (tradition has it that it was reindeer blood, but in recent years they have been taken into consideration other species as well). Accompanied by spices, mashed potatoes, fried bacon, butter and blueberry jam, they can be stuffed with onions and bacon, and cooked in meat broth.
Calskrove, Sweden

Completing the podium is another Scandinavian specialty, conceived by the Swedish restaurant Tre Konor, in the city of Skellefteå. Less unusual than the two primasti, it consists of a sort of pizza-calzone stuffed with a nice hamburger, onions, sauces and french fries. A complete, light and easily digestible dish.
Svið, Iceland

Incredible but true, in fourth place we find yet another traditional Nordic dish, a beautiful sheep’s head split in half and cooked on the grill. Usually accompanied by turnips, rhubarb jelly and mashed potatoes, this delicacy is traditionally served during the Thorrablot holiday (Þorrablót), the mid-winter festival celebrated in Iceland.
Hon mhai, Thailand

With fifth position we leave the European borders to move to Thailand, a land with a great culinary tradition. The protagonists of the dish are insects, specifically silkworms, which are fried and seasoned with salt, pepper and a very secret sauce which varies depending on the street vendor where you will be lucky enough to taste this delight (it is one street food). Greasy, crunchy and slightly bitter, fried silkworms are a classic of the city of Bangkok.
Chapalele, Chile

Sixth position for a dish that comes from South America, a particular type of bread made with potatoes and flour. Originally from the island of Chiloé, in the south of the country, its greatest peculiarity is the cooking carried out inside a hole dug in the ground, curanto. It can be consumed alone, as a snack, or as an accompaniment to stews and meat dishes.
Jellied eels, England

Jellied eels take us back to the Old Continent, where they occupy an excellent seventh position. Typical English dish, dating back to the 18th century, involves eels cut into pieces, boiled with aromatic herbs and then left to cool, at which time the typical jelly is formed. With a delicate flavour, they are served with white pepper and vinegar.
Ramen Burger, USA

The United States of America enters the ranking in eighth place, with a very delicate example of fusion cuisine, which combines Yankee tradition with that of the Land of the Rising Sun. The name leaves little room for the imagination: a sandwich stuffed with hamburger meat, which instead of bread includes two slices of fried noodles, enriched with shoyu sauce, rocket and onion. Created by food blogger Keizo Shimamoto, the ramen burger was launched in 2013 in the New York neighborhood of Brooklyn.
Kaeng tai pla, Thailand

Another Thai dish in the ranking, fish curry occupies ninth position. Originating from the southern part of the country, its protagonist is tai pla, or fermented fish innards, to which is added a spicy curry made up of ingredients such as chillies, galangal, prawn paste, turmeric, shallots and lemongrass. Served with steamed rice, it includes, as an accompaniment, dried fish, aubergines, bamboo shoots, green beans and other vegetables.
Aginares salata, Greece
We conclude the top ten with a Greek dish, a traditional artichoke salad originating from the island of Crete. In addition to artichokes, the dish includes oil, lemon, mustard, garlic, dill, salt and pepper. To make it, you will have to boil the artichokes in water, add lemon juice, drain them and wait for them to cool. After that, you can prepare the seasoning, using the above ingredients, add salt and pepper, then mix and serve.
The Italian dishes on the list
Even Italy, home of good food, is not immune from the severe judgment of TasteAtlas, and two dishes have found space in the ranking.
In fifteenth position we have the nerve salada classic of the Lombard tradition that uses calf knee cartilage, seasoned with onion and vinegar.

In sixty-second place, however, there is the strawberry risottocertainly a risky combination, but, given the fierce competition, between insects, putrid fish and chocolate bacon – you understood correctly, in seventy-sixth place, directly from the USA – our risotto should have occupied, at least, the last position.
