A 300 meters bull aims to become the Eiffel Tower of Spain (but the statue that celebrates the bullfight makes you discuss)

In Spain, an idea as ambitious as controversial is being discussed: the construction of a 300 meters high bull intended to become the new tourist symbol of the country. The initiative, proposed by the Spanish Academy of Tauromachia, wants to create an icon capable of rivaling with the Eiffel Tower in Paris or with other world attractions. The goal is not only aesthetic: the promoters aim to strengthen the tourism sector and to stimulate new economic opportunities in the chosen areas.

Where the “Toro de España” could arise

Over thirty locations have applied to host the giant, including provinces such as Guadalajara and Burgos. However, it is the community of Madrid who leads the competition: four municipalities, El Molar, Griso, ValdeMoro and Galapagar, have officially presented their candidacy. In particular, El Molar seems to be the advantage thanks to the proposal of his councilor for tourism, Fernando Hernández, who sees in the bull an opportunity for economic and cultural relaunch for the territory.

The economic and tourist advantages

According to Hernández, the impact of such an attraction would be remarkable. The monument would be visible not only from the A-1 motorway, but also from the capital, becoming an easily recognizable point of reference, like the Cuatro Torres di Madrid.

Furthermore, at the base of the sculpture there is the development of a commercial area with restaurants, souvenirs shops and cultural spaces related to the Taurine tradition. A strategy that, in the intentions, would bring new jobs and an increase in tourist flows.

Criticism and controversy

The project, however, is not without obstacles. In addition to the necessary approval of the community of Madrid and President Isabel Díaz Ayuso, the giant bull divides public opinion. On the one hand there are those who consider it a unique opportunity to strengthen the image of Spain in the world; On the other hand, there is no lack of protests of animal rights activists and antitaurini groups.

Can a monument dedicated to bullfighting and barbarisms that characterize it in 2025 in 2025? Essentially it is a monumental celebration of a practice that has already been abolished in many European regions. It is not enough to compare yourself to the Eiffel tower to conquer the world: that monument has become a symbol of innovation, not of suffering.

The risk is that the “Toro de España” does not become an international icon, but rather the symbol of a country anchored to a controversial tradition. A monument that instead of uniting divides and that can come to transmit to tourism a wrong message: to celebrate animal abuse is not progress, but a step back.
