“A night at the theater”: 30 elementary school children sleep on the stage of the Comunale in Ferrara (also celebrating a birthday)

In the heart of Ferrara, the Claudio Abbado Municipal Theater turned off the stage lights to turn on something different: a night in which the stage was not the territory of the actors, but a refuge for 30 pupils from the Govoni primary school. The initiative A night at the theatre it transformed the theater spaces into an immersive experience where the distinction between spectator and protagonist dissolved. The children of classes 5A and 5B passed through environments normally invisible to the public: the Ridotto, the technical corridors, the stage. Each space has become an opportunity for discovery, guided by stories and curiosities that have given the theater its most authentic dimension, that of a living place even when the curtain is closed.

An evening of pizza, emotions and a special birthday

The evening opened with a convivial moment: shared pizza and laughter together with four teachers with the director Anna Tataranni greeting the children before the night. Among the events of the evening also the birthday of Anita, 11 years old, celebrated directly in the theatre, making the experience even more personal and memorable. Then, among sleeping bags, torches and soft toys, the stage was transformed into a large collective dormitory. The activities curated by Andrea Lugli and Liliana Letterese del Flying Trunk – Children’s Theatre they accompanied the children to sleep with narratives capable of stimulating imagination and listening. Falling asleep on stage made the theater a space lived until the last breath of the day.

A project that brings children closer to culture

The next morning arrived slowly, between breakfast and smiles still suspended between dream and reality. For culture councilor Marco Gulinelli, the theater is the place where dreams take concrete shape. Director Carlo Bergamasco underlined how, for one night, the children became “masters of the theater”, experiencing the space in total freedom. A night at the theatre confirms its nature as an educational project capable of transforming a historic building into an emotional experience. Not a simple visit, but a total immersion that combines culture, play and imagination, leaving children with a memory destined to last longer than the night itself.
