The Grand Egyptian Museum (Gem), the most impressive cultural project ever made in Egypt, will officially open its doors to the public on 1 November 2025. After years of waiting and postponements, the museum will arise a few steps from the pyramids of Giza, with the aim of becoming a point of reference not only for history enthusiasts, but also for those who want to live an immersive experience in the heart of the pharaonic civilization.
A museum that changes the rules of world tourism
The Gem is not an ordinary museum: with its 50 hectares of surface, it will be the largest space in the world dedicated to a single civilization. Inside, over 100,000 finds will find a place, including the entire Tutankhamon collection, consisting of more than 5,000 objects never exposed together to date.
Its opening represents a turning point not only cultural, but also economic. In Egypt, tourism weighs for about 9% of the GDP and the new museum was designed as a flywheel to attract millions of visitors, transforming the Giza area into an international recall pole.
A journey through millenary finds and futuristic architecture, next to the pyramids
In addition to the imposing collection, the Grand Egyptian Museum stands out for its modern architecture, designed to dialogue with the unique landscape of the desert and pyramids. The first partial openings have already allowed the public to visit the Grand Hall and some main galleries, offering a taste of what will be a real journey through time.
From 4 November 2025, the complex will be visited entirely, after a short closure dedicated to the preparations of the inaugural ceremony, scheduled for November 1st and reserved for heads of state and international guests.
