A dedicated photovoltaic system, renewable energy and a twenty -year agreement to reduce emissions: Agugiaro & Fignathe historic Italian flour brand, teams up with the Edison Group company, Edison Nextto make his production even more sustainable. The result? A model of energy transition applied to the food industry.
There is the sun behind each sack of flour. At least in the plans of Agugiaro & Figna, a company with more than 600 years of history and today among the protagonists of the national market in the grinding of tender wheat, which has chosen to take a new step in the direction of sustainability thanks to the collaboration with Edison Next. The partnership takes shape in a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) Off Site lasting twenty years for the construction of a 3.2 MWP photovoltaic system.
An investment, against Edison Next, which aims to satisfy about 20% of the overall electrical electricity needs of the three groups of the group located in Collecchio (Parma), Curtarolo (Padua) and Magione (Perugia). Translated: over 5 GWh per year of renewable energy, capable of covering the daytime need almost entirely and cutting out of the production chain out of the production chain about 1,300 tons of Coâ‚‚ every year.
The system will be installed by 2026 on an area of 47,000 square meters. Thanks to the formula of the PPA Off Site, Edison Next will deal with the design to the construction, to the management and maintenance of the system. In return, Agugiaro & Figna will be able to take advantage of the energy produced at a fixed and competitive price, without having to invest directly in the construction of the infrastructure. An advantage that should therefore be cheap and, together, environmental.
The collaboration with Agugiaro & Figna represents a concrete example of how traditional production sectors can take a virtuous path of decarbonisation – he explained in a note Marco SteardoDirector of Industry of Edison Next – The PPA is a winning formula because it allows companies to stabilize energy costs and become more resilient, without management charges.
For Agugiaro & Figna, this is not a first time. The company is already a benefit company and has started the path to obtain the B-Corp certification. In the past he recovered an urban area degraded to the gates of Parma with an urban art project and created the “Bosco del Molino“, A green laboratory of 13 hectares.” We are aware of the responsibility that each company has towards the environment and future generations, “he commented Alberto Fignapresident of the group.
