Baci Perugina vs Ferrero Rocher: what is best to give as a gift on Valentine’s Day? (it’s not just a question of price)

Valentine’s Day is approaching and, like every year, among the most appreciated gifts there will be the classic box of chocolates. But which one to choose among the many options available on the shelves? Altroconsumo compared two of the most well-known and appreciated products: Baci Perugina and Ferrero Rocher.

Which is the best? In reality there is no overall winner. The choice mainly depends on who will receive the gift, taste preferences, dietary needs and budget.

Baci Perugina versus Ferrero Rocher

Upon closer inspection, the differences between Baci Perugina and Ferrero Rocher are quite evident. Rochers combine milk chocolate, cream and crunchy wafer, enriched with a whole hazelnut and chopped hazelnuts, with an overall percentage of 28.5%. This layered structure makes them sweeter and crunchier, ideal for those who love milk chocolate, but also involves the presence of gluten and palm oil.

Baci Perugina follow a different logic: extra dark chocolate is the basis for a whole hazelnut and 26% chopped hazelnuts, without wafers and gluten-free. Each chocolate includes the iconic note with a philosophical message, always greatly appreciated.

From a nutritional point of view, the differences between the two products are minimal. A Bacio contains around 71 calories, while a Rocher has around 75, confirming that these are sweets to be consumed in moderation, on special occasions such as Valentine’s Day.

Both contain milk and derivatives as well as hazelnuts, so they are not suitable for allergy sufferers. The only significant difference for those with dietary needs is gluten: only the Baci are gluten-free, while the Rocher contain wafers with wheat flour.

The price factor (and the romantic one)

The wallet also has its importance. Ferrero Rochers cost less on average: around 0.41 euros per chocolate (6.50 euros for a 200g pack) compared to 0.52 euros for Baci Perugina (200g pack around 8.39 euros). A difference that is especially noticeable in larger packages or when the gift is intended for several people.

However, Baci Perugina plays another card: the symbolic value. The famous philosophical note included in each chocolate transforms the gift into a more personal and targeted gesture, justifying the higher price for many.

So, what to choose?

The answer is simple: it depends. Baci Perugina are the ideal option for those who love dark chocolate, need to avoid gluten or are looking for a gift with a strong symbolic value. Ferrero Rochers, on the other hand, remain a more versatile, sweet choice appreciated by a wide audience, perfect for those who prefer milk chocolate.
