Forty years after its release, Back to the Future continues to travel through time with the same energy as when Robert Zemeckis brought the adventures of Marty McFly and Doc Brown to the big screen in 1985. And to celebrate this anniversary today, 21 October 2025, Back to the Future Day is celebrated, the international day dedicated to one of the most beloved sagas in the history of cinema. An anniversary that is not limited to nostalgia, but renews the bond between the public and a film that was able to combine science fiction, irony and sentiment.
The return to the big screen
To celebrate the occasion, Nexo Studios brings back the first chapter of the trilogy in a restored 4K version, offering audiences the experience of rediscovering the magic of Hill Valley with remastered images and sounds. In Italy and around the world, fans are invited to gather dressed as Marty, Doc or Biff, transforming the screenings into real cosplay gatherings. The goal? Recreating the global community of enthusiasts who, for decades, have shared the same passion for the DeLorean DMC-12, cinema’s most iconic time machine. All of this, obviously, to be posted on social media with the hashtag #RitornoAlFuturoDay40.

The return also in streaming
For those who prefer to stay at home, however, Sky and NOW make the complete trilogy available in streaming. A perfect opportunity to rediscover the charm of the 80s, among temporal paradoxes, cult jokes and moments that have become legend. The marathon is a dip in time, a way to relive the emotions of an era when all you needed was a walkman and a DeLorean to dream the impossible.
The collector’s box set and the documentary
For collectors, Universal Pictures and Fan Factory will launch new collector’s editions on November 13th: Blu-ray and 4K box sets, exclusive gadgets and unreleased documentaries that tell the story of the genesis of the film and curiosities from the set. Among the most anticipated contents, the documentary 40 years later: reflecting on Back to the Futurewhich traces the myth through the voices of Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd.
The “Back in Time” exhibition-event
To crown the Italian celebrations, the immersive exhibition Back in Time – The Exhibition, set up at Villa Beretta Magnaghi in Marcallo con Casone (MI), offers a journey of over 2,000 square meters of original memorabilia, costumes, storyboards and stage vehicles. Among the memorabilia on display are the DeLorean, Biff’s Ford and Marty’s Toyota Hilux, along with iconic objects such as the Walkman, hoverboards and anti-radiation suit. Part of the proceeds are donated to Team Fox, Michael J. Fox’s foundation for Parkinson’s research.
A legacy that never ages
Forty years after its debut, Back to the Future it is not just a film, but a generational manifesto that celebrates curiosity, friendship and the desire to overcome the limits of time. A reminder, perhaps, that even in 2025, travel into the future is still possible – at least at the movies.
